Alex Belfield

My new life at the BBC - Loving 2010!!!

Belfield's Broadcasting Career

What a year 2010 is turning out to be! I turned 30 in Jan, travelled the world visiting Egypt, Greece, Vegas, New York in the Spring and I've now West Yorkshire for my new life!

I've had a blessed life really having never done a proper days work, got my hands dirty or get out of bed much before 11am. I've made my living singing and talking nonsense on the Radio and meeting Celebs so I mustn't grumble!

In January 2010 I received the call I'd been waiting for for over 10 years... a proper on air job at the BBC doing my type of show - with the punters!

I've been at BBC Radio Leeds presenting 'Alex Belfield in the Morning' for a few months now and I'm completely in love with my show, audience and my team!

I'm so blessed after 15 years of slogging away at every crap radio station and Live venue who'd have me to finally get my dream gig on a big station with huge resources and a big budget... at the BBC.

What is even more cool is that I finally have a team who do most of the hard work but better still take all of the blame! Boy do I love my studio producers Katy, Emma and Sue... God bless them for sitting opposite my ugly mug 5 days a week!

I started my career at 14 in 1994 at BBC Radio Nottingham with Dennis McCarthy and Jeff Owen. These guys were local radio megastars without being buttock clenchingly dull and boring! Truly inspired.

Anyway... back to me! So for the last 3 years I focused on my Celebrity network programming and touring Live with the hope that the BBC would ring! I had an amazing time with my network stuff talking to everyone from Ozzy, Dale, Cilla, Fergie, ABBA, Donny, Tito Jackson, Des, Noel, Frankie Valli, Dame Edna, Sinatra to Jordan, Katona, Trisha, Ricky Lake and Jerry Springer.
My programmes were broadcast on 75 stations in the UK including; BBC WM, BBC Jersey, BBC H&W, BBC Gloucester, BBC Oxford, BBC Cumbria, Citytalk & Talk107.

I'll continue to mkae my Specials as long as they'll take them, they're soooo much fun!

The phone finally rings...

For those who don't know the story here goes - I took my 'post 45 show Christmas rehab' holiday in Egypt in early Jan 2010 and half way through I had a text from the boss of BBC Radio Leeds who wanted to hear more of Belfield and asked to meet me on my return. Rozina and I clicked straight away and very quickly we realised the show could work for West Yorkshire.

I did a few shows at BBC Leeds in March which had varied success as I don't work well with a co-host. These shows proved 3 hours a day is simply not enough for Belfield, guests and another voice sticking their beak in! So after much discussion the idea of 'Alex Belfield in the Morning' was born.

I agreed the deal to come to BBC Leeds for a year in room 905 at the Hilton Heathrow the night before leaving for Las Vegas in early April. That put me in the best mood ever for my favourite two weeks of the year in Sin City.

I started at BBC Leeds on May the 4th 2010

BBC Jersey

Over the last 10 years BBC Jersey have been amazingly supportive taking ALL of my network Celebrity programmes and seemingly loving them.

Since last year I've recorded 'Sunday with the Stars' for BBC Jersey which goes out at 3pm each week.

You can listen again at bbc.co.uk/jersey

Thanks Matthew, you're a Star!

Thanks also to BBC H&W, BBC Shropshire and BBC Stoke who were very kind in keeping me busy over the last few years.

Still on the Road - when I can

I've obviously had to cut back on the Live gigs this year but I'm still doing what I can when I can!

I had an amazing time at the end of May as the host of the Russell Watson concert at Harewood House in Leeds for Muscular Dystophy. Entertaining 2000 people is a huge thrill, that's quite a laugh when you get the punch line right! Russell is one of my favourite people EVER and he's such an incredibly talented and inspirational Star! It's an honour to think of him as my pal. One of my happiest nights on stage EVER to work with a huge orchestra and such amazing talent!

I was also honoured to be asked back to the Netherfield Gala in July for the 125th celebrations. It was a glorious day in 30oc sunshine and I sounded delicious although I still wore my full suit lol. Lovely to see everyone again.

I'm doing one week for Christmas shows (4 shows a day) from the 20th Dec which is almost full, I'll do everything I can to fit in the regulars!

Other than that I'm still doing Friday and Saturday nights most weeks when I'm back in Nottingham. I hope to start doing Live shows in West Yorkshire from the Autumn! Book now!

Also, keep your eye out for Children in Need in November... there are exciting talks about another 'Audience with Alex Belfield' - wish us luck!

Keep updated on my daily goings on at Facebook.

I update that far more regularly than www.alexbelfield.com - it's just easier.

Celebrity Radio

After the dick heads hacked and deleted everything on Celebrityradio.co.uk I'm still trying to do everything I can to get it back up. It's a very slow process but I promise I'll get it going again this Summer.
